“Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change”. A quote by Wayne W. Dyer that has its philosophy running parallel with life and even a commercial. To many, a stereotype may seem like a red-flag or a connotation of negativity. However, at Gary Chong Studios, a premier video shooting company Malaysia, we cherish negativity as an opportunity. This commercial was done for a dear client of ours, a globally acknowledged energy drink brand. The client pitched an idea of a video that conveyed their Chinese New Year wishes and promoted their festive-themed product. We answered with stereotypes.

Before letting out that triggered sigh, allow us to explain. In a country that celebrates diversity like Malaysia, the social atmosphere is condense with stereotypes. Like we said earlier, Gary Chong Studios looks at things different. When played right, stereotypes can be used as a catalyst of humour that easily penetrates cultural boundaries. Besides, what better way to be festive than to be laughing.

We pieced a skit that pushed the client’s product and tickled at the funny bone of the audience. A jolly good ad, we would say.
